God wants Shelby County Kentucky
to be a county that prays together.

God wants Shelby County to be a county that prays together.

THE GOAL

Our goal is to cover Shelby County and neighboring communities with unified prayer that pushes back the darkness that is trying to destroy the lives of our loved ones and instead release the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our prayer strategy is an expression of the Moravian prayer movement that began in Herrnhut, Germany in 1727 under the leadership of Count Zinzendorf. That year, a few believers covenanted to start a 24/7 prayer chain with at least two people praying every hour. Little did they know that their prayer watch would last over 100 years. By 1791, the Moravians had prayed non-stop for 65 years and sent over 300 missionaries around the world.

A History of 24/7 Prayer

THE VISION

To see Shelby County and neighboring communities covered in unceasing prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17) through thirty or more churches becoming a unified multi-ethnic, interdenominational, and multi-generational prayer network.

THE CALL

Matthew 21:13, “And Jesus said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer.’” And Shelby County shall be called a community that prays together.

THE STRATEGY

How simple would it be to see our county and neighboring communities covered in unceasing, unified prayer if every church adopted one day (or half day) of prayer each month? Every church develops a priority and culture of prayer that defeats the darkness and transforms the local church and community.

THE COMMITMENT

Churches commit to adopt a monthly day (or half day) of prayer and cover those 12-24 hours in prayer. Local church leaders recruit people to pray 30-60 minutes from home, work, school or church. Churches pray the same day of the month (ie: first Monday)

Steps to Launch a Day of Prayer

1. ADOPT A DAY OF PRAYER
Pastor selects a half or full day for the church to pray every month.

2. APPOINT A PRAYER COORDINATOR

3. SHARE THE VISION
The Pastor shares the vision with the church during Sunday morning services a few weeks before the first monthly day of prayer.

4. RECRUIT  & FOLLOW UP
Church members sign up to pray for 30 or 60 minutes on the chosen day of prayer.

5. PRAY
Coordinators send reminders and volunteers pray from home, school, work, or church.

City and Transformation

Unceasing prayer is happening in homes, places of work, college dorms, coffee shops, parks, and churches. Through united prayer, we are witnessing Jesus transform our economy and confront the abortion crisis. The hungry are being fed and the poor are being served. We took Jeremiah 29:7 to heart and began praying for the peace and prosperity of our state: “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” God made it clear that prayer plays a vital role in the safety and prosperity of your community.

BACKGROUND

One night I perceived a strategic attack of darkness hovering over our county and neighboring communities assembled to destroy young lives through drug overdoses, suicide attempts, and despair.  I sensed the Lord reveal to me, “I am gathering an army to fight this evil darkness in prayer!”  I responded in my heart, “Lord, I want to be in that army.  Enlist me tonight!”  Though I was inspired to begin praying at that moment in January 2020, I knew the army He was recruiting would be hundreds of believers in our county joining faith in unified prayer to conquer the darkness and usher in a flood of Christ’s light and victory.  Let us pray strategically together.
